A Full Lunar Eclipse on the Solstice? Sweet!

Yeah, how often does it land right on the Winter Solstice? I'm sure pagans everywhere will be rejoicing. The year turns, the moon goes red, armageddon is nigh! Begin the slaughter! Oh, wait, maybe not.

DOOOOOOOOM!

Anyway, this one will be completely visible from start to finish in our neck of the woods....if the clouds cooperate. Keep your fingers crossed! It starts 1:33 am EST, with totality starting at 2:41 am and lasting 72 minutes. TOTAL TOTALITY is at 3:17 am. So, if you like sleeping, wake up around then to see the Moon of Doom!

Info and pics yanked from NASA!
Maybe we should do an early morn Solstice Eclipse FOOL DOOOM MOON ride...

So if we see the same side of the moon for every phase, does it rotate?
A good post! I wish I could stay awake past nine to do a night ride to chimney rocks and watch!

Yes, it does! Its revolution period matches its rotation period, so the same side is always facing us. Weird, eh?
